Hide AdA spokesman said: "As some of the team where making their way to the station, we came across a person who fit the description of the ‘male in the water’ walking down Dock Street.
"It seems that he had swam across the river against a flood tide and had been pulled out by a member of the public.
"This is something we would not under any circumstance, consider a safe thing to do (swimming in the river that is) but people are people and unfortunately we can’t legislate for those who think they are invincible!"
The RNLI was also called to the River Wyre on the Knott End side last night to reports of two people in the water.
