The Fleetwood coastguard team was called just after 1.30pm yesterday to reports of several people cut off by the tide at Cleveleys beach.

As the group was taken to safety, it was determined that ‘many more’ people would be cut off as the tide came in.

A HM Coastguard Fleetwood spokesman said: “The team split into groups along the coast from 5 Bar Gate (Rossall) to Red Bank Road (Bispham).

“Thankfully our colleagues from Knott-End Coastguard Rescue Team were in the area & joined to assist us clearing the members of public from the incoming tide. We also had the assistance of Blackpool Beach Patrol to help us with the multiple incidents as they progressed.

“After three hours we were satisfied that no other members of the public were in danger and stood down to return to station.

“We cannot stress enough the dangers of the incoming tide on our coastline. Although high tide may be at 6pm, the gullies start to fill up at least three hours before high water. Please, please be aware of your surroundings and the dangers of being cut off.”
