Clitheroe raises the flag to honour Armed Forces Day

The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at Clitheroe Castle by Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Bridget Hilton during a ceremony marking the special event.

The flag has also been raised at famous landmarks and Government buildings across the UK, including 10 Downing Street and the Ministry of Defence. Around the country local authorities, town and parish councils and communities – large and small – are showing their support for British servicemen and women who have served and still serve there country today.

Since 2009, Armed Forces Day has been marked annually with events large and small throughout the UK. Ribble Valley Borough Council launched an Armed Forces Community Covenant on Armed Forces Day in 2013. The covenant marked the borough’s pledge to support servicemen and women living in the borough, nurture public understanding and awareness of issues affecting service personnel, recognise the sacrifices faced by the armed forces and promote activities aimed at integrating service personnel into the community. It was signed by civic leaders and representatives of the armed forces, Ribble Valley Homes, the Royal British Legion and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
