Centenarian Isobel makes it 100 not out

Isobel, who lives at the Fairhaven Care Home on Laidleys Walk, Fleetwood, marked the big occasion on Monday with members of her family.

And the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Coun Tom Balmain and wife Alene, visited the home to celebrate with her as well.

Mandy Moss, who owns the Fairhaven, said: “Having one of our residents reach 100 is a bit of a feather in our cap.

“Isobel lived independently until she was 99 and is very fit for someone who is a hundred years old!

“She was really proud when she got her telegram from The Queen.”

Isabel was born to parents Mary and William Eaves in Fleetwood on February 15 1916, at their home on Addison Road.

At the time, the First World War was still raging and King George V was on the throne. Queen Elizabeth II had yet to be born.

William worked in the local iron foundry, while her mother stayed at home looking after the children.

Isabel was a pupil at Blakiston Street Infant and Lord Street Memorial schools and finished her education at 14.

From then, she had several jobs working in shops and factories until 1940, when she married Fleetwood man Tom Bee, who was serving the war in the Royal Navy.

The couple had seven children; Tom, Norman, Victor, Lorraine, Edna, Doreen and young Isabel, and mum Isabel looked after the family when her husband became a local fisherman after the war.

Sadly, Tom passed away in 1983, but Isabel stayed in the family home.

Isabel enjoyed socialising with family and friends, walking and gardening well into her late nineties, before moving to the Fairhaven in July last year.
