Cash appeal for victims of floods

Almost £300 was collected for the cause by the Lions in St Annes last weekend – and with an additional £35 donated since and the Lions having a further pledged £1,000 plus match-funding every penny donated, the fund is set for a major boost.

“We always collect for a good cause at this time of year and we felt the Cumbrian appeal was the one to go for this time,” said Lions spokesman Colin Holt.

“Thanks to everyone who donated on a dreadful day in St Annes, plus the two donors who have been in touch since to give a total of £35, and we hope to see plenty of people in Lytham this Saturday.

“All the money raised will go, without any administrative deductions, to help in the relief work for the local people who have lost so much in the floods and storms.

“There are several Lions clubs in Cumbria and the Lakes who are actively involved in helping with the relief work, and all donations from clubs in the North West will have their donations routed via the local clubs to help with the purchase of household items lost or destroyed, or any other urgent needs identified by the relief workers.”

The Lions will be collecting on Clifton Street from 10am on Saturday.
