Officers following a tip off from a member of the public carried out a raid on a house in Fredora Avenue, a stone’s throw away from Stanley Primary.

When police arrived at the scene the farm was in the process of being dismantled.

A number of cannabis plants were recovered along with £7,500 in cash.

Officers suspect the drugs operation may be linked in with money laundering and a 27-year-old man is voluntarily helping them with their investigations.

He is due to speak with police next week.

The discovery was made on Sunday.

Police were acting on intelligence from the general public and were quick to thank those involved in identifying the drugs operation.

PC Richard McKenna was among those who attended the scene.

He said: “The male was in the process of dismantling the production when we knocked on the door.

“The male is now being investigated for production of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and money laundering.

“This intervention was only possible due to community intelligence.”

Coun Jim Elmes, who represents Marton ward, said such a find was rare in that area of Blackpool.

“It is a concern,” he said.
“It’s not just the school nearby, there’s a nursery on that road too.

“It is unusual, you don’t hear about this happening in that part of Marton.

“It is the first I have heard of this incident.”

Coun Elmes made it clear anyone with concerns in their own neighbourhood should speak up.

He said; “This has come about through people in the area contacting police.

“If they have any concerns they should do the same or if they want to remain anonymous contact me and I will speak to the police on their behalf.”

The discovery in Marton came at the same time as officers in central Blackpool uncovered a 20-plant cannabis factory in a hotel.
