'˜Calming and caring' school given praise

Inspector Tim Vaughan said the school continues to be good and lauded the quality of teaching.

He said in a report that followed a visit: “You have created a calm, caring, family-feeling in a large, busy primary school.

“This is a school where pupils are willing to learn and to play their part in school life. They are given many opportunities to contribute, grow, and flourish.

“Anchorsholme is not a school that stands still. Reviews of the quality of teaching are regular and thorough.

“You have identified correctly that disadvantaged students are not doing as well as others, particularly in maths.

“Staff are taking clear steps to support these pupils’ feelings and to improve their skills and ability to learn.”

To further improve, the education watchdog said help and support teaching assistants improve their own teaching, and give parents a wider opportunity to share their views of the school.

Ofsted’s visit was the first since 2013, before Anchorsholme became an academy.
