Bridge reconstruction woes

Drivers in Kirkham were experiencing the disruption of single lane traffic for the first time yesterday as Network rail began work on Station Road Bridge.

The town will have temporary traffic lights along its main access road for three months while reconstruction work is carried out.

The town suffered huge disruption last year when Network Rail spent months electrifying the railway line.

They will rebuild the bridge, as it has reached the “end of its life expectancy”.

Coun Elaine Silverwood, of Kirkham North, said: “I am really not impressed as it will cause disruptions for everybody in the town with huge waiting times for anybody driving. I know that when the closure happened last year, lots of people told me they avoided coming into town.”
