Bridge collapse will disrupt train schedule

Rail passengers trying to get from Preston to Manchester face delays due to the collapse of a bridge.

Damage to the railway bridge near Moses Gate Station caused by a burst water pipe means all lines between Salford Crescent and Bolton have been closed.

A replacement bus service has been put in place.

The station, which was due to open today, will remain closed while emergency repairs are carried out.

The line between Salford Crescent and Bolton is expected to remain closed for the next two weeks.

A spokesman for National Rail advised customers: “Please note that rail replacement coaches are unable to access Moses Gate due to the burst water main.

“Please use Farnworth station where buses are running to Bolton and Manchester Victoria.”

Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey, and to check the National Rail website before travelling at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
