Body found on St Annes beach

Police are working to recover the body after being called out just after 8am today.

The man has not yet been identified and the death is being treated as unexplained.

A police spokesman said: “Shortly after 8am today, police were called following the discovery of the body of a man on the beach at St Annes.

“The body was discovered on the sand opposite Beach Road. Emergency services attended and the body is being recovered.

“Enquiries are underway to identify the man and the death is being treated as unexplained at this time.”

A spokesman for Liverpool Coastguard said: “We were informed this morning by the ambulance service, at 8.10am, requesting assistance along with the police in identifying and recovering the body. Coastguards are assisting.”
