Only lift in major Blackpool town centre car park broken again a week after repairs
The lift at a popular car park at the heart of Blackpool town centre has broken down again - just a week after being restored to use.
The new breakdown means users again face a climb of up to six flights of stairs to get to and from their vehicles, with particular inconvenience for those with mobility issues and families with prams.
Operators Blackpool Council says engineers are again waiting for a part required to make the repair and hope the lift will be back in action later this week,

Meanwhile, signage informing drivers of the closure at the entrance to the car park, suggests the alternative of the Talbot Road multi-storey.
West Street car park, behind the town hall and close to the promenade, is the nearest to the Grand Theatre, which is hosting National Theatre Connections shows tonight and tomorrow, with a celebration of 100 Years of Laurel and Hardy on Wednesday followed by a production of Sherlock Holmes: The Search for Moriarty over three nights from Thursday.

It’s also close to the Winter Gardens, where comedian James Acaster performs on Thursday and Friday, with dance group Diversity following on Saturday.
The previous breakdown coincided with the opening of Blackpool Operatic Players’ production of 42nd Street at The Grand and the Players’ spokesperson Chris Thornton said: “The proximity of West Street car park is an important factor to many and access is very difficult without the lift being available.”

A spokesperson for Blackpool Council said: “Engineers have attended again today and, pending the arrival of a part, we hope to complete the repair works later this week.
“There’s signage up around the car park to alert drivers that the lift is out of use.”
