The discount retailer was opened by Blackpool’s Mayor and Mayoress, councillors Gary and Debbie Coleman.

The store has relocated from Bank Hey Street due to the Palatine building being redeveloped as a five star hotel.

The new 16,000 sq ft store uses part of the former BHS.

The colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community.

They chose the team from Aspired Futures which charity provides long-term, life-changing therapeutic services for vulnerable children and young people in the local community to help them overcome personal challenges and establish new skills to improve their lives.

The charity has received £250 worth of B&M vouchers towards their work in the local area.

The store manager, Gary Elliott, said: “The team from Aspired Futures really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for the local community, we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

He also commented: “Our new colleagues have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day, we can’t wait to get the doors open Friday and show customers their brand new B&M.”

The original store closed on Saturday 30th June and the former BHS site on Church Street has undergone a comprehensive internal and external make over programme before open its doors.

The store already employed 34 colleagues but the bigger space has seen them taking on an additional 20 colleagues.

B&M was formed in Blackpool in 1978 and is now one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers, with over 570 stores nationwide
