Blackpool Zoo marks adorable endangered baby elephant Zaiya's first six months
Blackpool Zoo has marked an adorable endangered baby elephant’s first six months.
In September 2025, history was made at the zoo with the birth of endangered elephant calf Zaiya and she’s been stealing hearts ever since!

Now six months old footage captured by Alison Allen shows Zaiya thriving.
Keepers are delighted with her progress, sharing that she’s doing really well thanks to the strong bond she shares with mum Tara and her ‘allomothers’ Noorjahan and Esha, alongside the care of our exceptional and dedicated keeper team.

A spokesperson for the zoo said: “Whether she’s scrambling up sand mounds, wobbling across logs, or testing her trunk strength, Zaiya is learning fast and growing in confidence every day, with Tara and Noorjahan never too far away to offer reassurance and comfort if needed.
“These playful moments build strength and coordination while showing just how closely she observes and learns from the herd.”
They added: “She’s also starting to master her trunk, now picking up hay, browse, pellets and apples as she starts eating solid food, all while still receiving additional nutritional support from the team.
“Six months of milestones, and we can’t wait to watch Zaiya continue to grow!”
