Blackpool Tower set to light up orange - here's why this national tribute is so important
Blackpool Tower will glow orange on December 8 at 6pm to mark the end of National Grief Awareness Week, honouring the work of The Good Grief Trust - the UK’s leading bereavement network supporting people through loss.
Blackpool Tower will light up bright orange this Sunday, December, 8, joining landmarks across the country in a powerful display of solidarity for those living with grief.
The illumination marks the close of National Grief Awareness Week (2–8 December) an annual campaign run by The Good Grief Trust, the UK’s leading bereavement support network.
Founded by Linda Magistris OBE, The Good Grief Trust brings together more than 1,000 specialist services under one umbrella, helping people find the right support at the most difficult time in their lives.
The charity is backed by a host of well-known ambassadors, including Dame Penelope Wilton, Greg Wise, Dr Amir Khan and Dr Nighat Arif, and works closely with NHS Trusts, GP practices and national policymakers.

This year’s campaign centres on the theme ‘Growing With Grief’, highlighting how loss-while life-changing - can also be the starting point for new strength, understanding and hope.
Through community Walk & Talks, creative projects and local events, the campaign encourages people to feel less alone while opening up conversations about bereavement.
Linda Magistris OBE said: “We hope Growing With Grief will offer those who are bereaved hope for the future, and help friends and family better understand how to support someone they love.”
A number of national initiatives are supporting the 2025 campaign, including a symbolic seed-to-flower project, a photography competition and a new weekly planner designed to help people rebuild gentle routine.
The Trust has also launched a new illustrated pocket-sized book, Help and Hope in One Little Book, created with artist Ann O’Malley (@griefkid), offering bite-sized comfort and guidance for anyone navigating loss.
The illumination is one of dozens taking place nationwide, each shining a light for those grieving and for the vital support The Good Grief Trust provides.
