Blackpool South MP Chris Webb to host new Older Persons’ Fair at Winter Gardens - everything you need to know

Everything you need to know about this week’s event.

Chris Webb, MP for Blackpool South, is bringing together local organisations for an Older Persons’ Fair offering advice, support, community activities and entertainment under one roof.

The event will take place on Friday, 23 October, from 9am to 3pm at the Pavilion & Horseshoe at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The fair aims to give older people an opportunity to access advice on issues that matter to them, find out about support they may be entitled to, meet local community groups and enjoy entertainment, activities and refreshments.

However, the event is intended to offer more than information and support services, with opportunities for visitors to socialise, discover new interests and find activities to enjoy.

What can visitors expect?

A range of organisations will be attending, offering information about everything from arts and culture to wellbeing, housing and local history. Among those taking part will be Together in Tune, which will host an interactive guitar sing-along at 11.30am, with percussion instruments available for visitors to join in.

The session will also provide a taster of Memory and Music social sessions due to begin in November, delivered with Pride in Place and Blackpool Libraries. The Old Electric will be on hand to share information about its community theatre and scriptwriting groups, as part of its work to make arts and culture accessible to everyone.

Meanwhile, u3a UK (University of the Third Age) will introduce visitors to opportunities to explore interests including languages, crafts, history and poetry.

Advice, wellbeing and community support

The fair will also bring together organisations providing practical advice and support for local residents. Lancashire Women will offer information about wellbeing, money and energy advice, as well as support with finding work in Blackpool.

Blackpool Coastal Housing, which manages sheltered housing across the town, will also attend, giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about the organisation.

Together We Can Do will be there to highlight its work supporting disabled adults across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre to take part in inclusive sports, exercise and social activities.

Visitors interested in family history or the history of their neighbourhood will also have the opportunity to speak to Lancashire Archives. The organisation holds around 900 years of local history, and attendees will be able to bring questions and explore the history of their family, street or home.

Meet the MP’s team

Chris Webb and his team will be at the event to welcome visitors, offer support and direct people towards organisations and services that may be of interest to them.

The MP has encouraged people to attend whether they have a specific question they would like answered or simply want to find out what is available locally.

The fair is open to people looking for advice and support, as well as those who want to meet others, explore new interests and enjoy a day of activities and entertainment.
