Blackpool asks young people for ideas as part of major climate action fund initiative
Blackpool has been chosen as one of 300 cities worldwide to join a major international youth climate initiative, giving young residents the chance to help shape greener local communities.
Blackpool Council has been announced at Bloomberg CityLab 2026 as one of 300 towns and cities selected to take part in the expanded Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund, a global programme designed to empower young people to deliver climate-focused projects in their own communities.

The initiative will enable residents aged 15 to 24 across Blackpool to turn their ideas into practical, community-led projects that support the town’s environmental priorities.
From improving green spaces to tackling local sustainability challenges, the scheme aims to put young people at the heart of decision-making and local action on climate change.

Through funding and support provided by the programme, young people will be able to design and deliver projects that make neighbourhoods greener, healthier and more resilient for the future.
Council leaders say the opportunity represents a significant step in strengthening youth voice in local governance and ensuring that the next generation plays an active role in shaping the town’s long-term future.
Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, welcomed the announcement and highlighted the importance of involving younger residents in decisions that will affect their lives and their town for years to come.
She was pictured at the event alongside Alfie and Abi, two of the young people who will help support the initiative going forward.
The programme is being delivered in partnership with global city networks including C40 Cities and United Cities and Local Governments with funding and coordination from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Further details on how young people in Blackpool can apply to get involved will be announced in the coming months.
