'Immediate casualty care' - Blackpool RNLI crews respond to 2 Monday evening callouts
Volunteer crews were busy on Monday evening.
Blackpool RNLI volunteers responded to two separate incidents on Monday evening, including the rescue of a person from the sea near Central Pier.
The first call came at 5.04pm, when the volunteer crew was alerted to two people who had been cut off on a sandbank by the incoming tide at Cleveleys. The Blackpool crew launched the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat and headed to the scene.
However, on arrival, they were stood down after the two people had fortunately made it safely back to shore.

At 6.54pm, the crew was called again, this time to the vicinity of Central Pier following reports of a person in the sea who appeared to be in difficulty. With RNLI volunteer crews still at the station, a D class lifeboat was launched.
On arriving at the scene, the crew located the casualty and rescued them from the sea. Immediate casualty care was provided before the lifeboat crew returned to the lifeboat station, where the casualty was handed over to North West Ambulance Service.
Blackpool RNLI thanked their community colleagues at HM Coastguard, North West Ambulance Service and Blackpool Police for their assistance in keeping Blackpool safe. The RNLI is reminding people that if they see anything of concern on the beach or at sea, they should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. “Minutes matter,” they said.
