The couple had celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in April this year, and had been together for more than 50 years.

Coun Rowson, who represents Ingthorpe ward on Blackpool Council, said: “It has been a terrible shock but I am very grateful for all the messages of support I have had from people, and they really do help.

“We were together for such a long time and it is only just sinking in that he had gone.

“The Mayoress Joan Goldin, my deputies and other councillors have been standing in to take over some of my mayoral engagements so I haven’t had to worry about that, and that has also beeen a great help.”

Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Coun Gary Coleman and Coun Debbie Coleman have taken over some duties.
