Richard Ryan, who joined Blackpool Council in 1989, is taking on a new challenge in the private sector.

During his career, he has been involved in the creation and installation of numerous displays, including working with celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

In recent times he has helped secure Coastal Communities Funding which was used to create the Lightpool programme, a series of 3D shows projected on to the front of The Blackpool Tower building adding a completely new dimension to the traditional Illuminations display.

He has also helped to export smaller-scale Illumination displays to other towns and cities across the UK.

Coun Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: “Richard has been the face of Blackpool Illuminations for many years and his passion and dedication to the annual display is renowned.

“Over the years he has worked tirelessly to ensure the Blackpool Illuminations remain a focal point of the resort’s visitor economy.

“We are very sad to see him go, but wish him well as he embarks on a new adventure.”
