Blackpool District Scout Council enjoy evening of entertainment

More than 220 guests attended the black tie event at Blackpool Football Club, with the Matthews Lounge decked out in red and white to mark St George’s Day.

Ladies wore glittering gowns while the men donned their evening suits.

The evening was presided over by ‘Guild Toast Master’ George Phillips as guests sat down to a three-course meal provided by Rowley’s.

St George was chosen by the Scouts’ founder Robert Baden Powell as the patron saint of Scouting for his  bravery and commitment – the qualities of every Scout facing up to different challenges in life.

Coun Lily Henderson, president of the Blackpool District Scout Council, hosted the evening, and with the support of Irene and Phil Wheatley, who collaborated in the planning of the event to ensure such a smooth running, thanked everyone for attending.

During the evening, there was a raffle and auction to raise money for young people in the district who are taking on different challenges and projects.

There was a DJ and entertainment was also provided by Lorraine Crosby – who has sung for Meat Loaf, and Bonnie Tyler – and her band.

Philip Mather, spoke-sman for Blackpool Scouts, said: “It was a fabulous evening to raise lots of money for our young people who are taking on so many exciting challenges.”
