Huge update on major Blackpool road closed for 7 weeks for crucial infrastructure work
The road has now reopened.
Hawes Side Lane has reopened following the completion of essential maintenance works designed to protect the bridge and extend its lifespan for decades to come.
The road had been closed while engineers carried out a programme of improvements, which included a full inspection of the structure for damage, cleaning and graffiti removal, repairs and repointing to the brickwork and masonry, resurfacing of Hawes Side Lane beneath the bridge, and the renewal of low headroom signage.
Blackpool Council thanked residents and motorists for their patience during the works, saying the improvements will help preserve the bridge for many years to come.

The road was closed between Pedders Lane and Dewhurst Avenue from May 26 for around seven weeks while the project was completed. When the closure was announced, Blackpool Council said the essential improvements would strengthen and protect Hawes Side Lane bridge, helping to reduce the need for future disruption.
During the closure, diversion routes were in place via Pedders Lane, St Annes Road and Watson Road, while pedestrian access was maintained throughout the works.
The maintenance programme included structural repairs to reinforce the bridge, resurfacing work on the road beneath it, upgraded safety signage, interior refurbishment through cleaning and graffiti removal, and repairs to the bridge's brickwork and masonry.
The council has now confirmed the project has been completed, with Hawes Side Lane once again open to traffic following the successful completion of the essential maintenance programme.
