'Big news to share': Beloved Fylde coast café Salt of the Earth shuts down

“We cannot wait to see you all again in our next chapter.”

One of the Fylde Coast’s most popular cafes has announced its shock closure ahead of a ‘new project’, after nearly 20 years of trading.

Salt of the Earth, found on Poulton Road in Carleton, made the shock announcement on Monday night. The popular cafe and delicatessen first opened in 2007, although new owners bought the business in 2024.

A spokesperson for Salt of the Earth explained their closure to the Gazette: “We have some big news to share. Salt of the Earth’s final day of regular trading will be this Sunday 6th September. However, this is not the last you’ll be seeing of us!

“Hospitality can certainly be an industry you enter flippantly, as a means to an end, its a first job for a lot of people; it’s fun and chaotic, but you have to keep the love for it alive and for us that means a new challenge, a new project, new location and a big change.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us and to all our amazing regulars. We're incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing what we love and very excited for what comes next.

“We cannot wait to see you all again in our next chapter.”
