Bad reaction of former soldier

Andrew Hercus was seen in the street with a bloody nose and kept walking away when police told him to stop.

Hercus, 36, of Torsway Avenue, Layton, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

He was fined £80 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said police saw a large crowd in Queen Street on January 26 at 3.45am. People were shouting about Hercus’ behaviour.

At the time of the offence Hercus was on a suspended prison sentence for affray.

Hercus’s defence said his client had drunk a lot that night and had little recollection of what happened.He had served six years in the Army, leaving after a second tour of Afghanistan.

Afterwards, he had been diagnosed with combat stress.

Hercus reacted badly under stress and that is how he had reacted when he was struck by one of the door staff.
