Members of Fylde Pubwatch have agreed to provide extra training to staff to help them challenge underage youths trying to buy alcohol.

Coun Cheryl Little, Fylde Council cabinet member for Social Wellbeing, said: “People have to be 18 to buy alcohol, and asking them about their age can be a difficult thing to do.

“By challenging anyone who appears to be under 25, the landlord or retailer can find out their real age while avoiding awkwardness.”

Pubs and retailers will also promote the national PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) which people can produce to prove their age if challenged by staff.
