Awards will recognise force's best volunteers

Inspirational police volunteers will be honoured at the Lord Ferrers Awards for the first time.

Special constables, volunteer police cadets, and police support volunteers will have their outstanding contribution recognised at the awards , due to be held in London in September.

The public are now being asked to make nominations – another first in the event’s history.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “The awards are a chance to celebrate the achievements of police volunteers across England and Wales and members of the public and police forces can now nominate anyone who they think deserves special recognition.”

Last year, the Home Office announced plans to extend the powers of police volunteers so they can play a greater role in policing our communities. Legislation is currently going through Parliament via the Policing and Crime Bill.

Categories include special constabulary, both individual and group; police support volunteer, both individual and group; volunteer police cadet, both individual and group; employer-supported policing award; and leadership award.

Nominations can be made online at tinyurl.com/ztonbaw until July 17.

Winners will be presented by awards by top cops and officials.
