Families visiting Blackpool attractions this summer will benefit from cheaper tickets after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a VAT reduction on attractions including theme parks, zoos and museums.
The measure, unveiled under the Government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme to help ease cost of living pressures linked to the Iran war, cuts VAT from 20% to 5%. Speaking in the Commons, Reeves confirmed the reduction will apply to children’s tickets for attractions, cinemas, concerts, play centres and theatres.
“This will apply to ticket prices for both adults and children, covering attractions such as fairs, theme parks, zoos and museums,” said Reeves, with the changes to run across the UK from June 25 to September 1. “It will include children’s tickets for cinemas, concerts, soft play, and the theatre, and it will cut the cost of children’s meals in restaurants and cafes from 20% VAT to 5% as well.”
“The Great British Summer Savings scheme is brilliant news for local families and for our tourism and hospitality sector. For Blackpool, where tourism supports thousands of local jobs and businesses, and where local families are often locked out of our attractions, cutting VAT to from 20% to 5% on summer attractions will make a real difference.
“As Chair of the APPG for Hospitality and Tourism, I’ve consistently argued that backing our visitor economy means backing communities too. This package helps businesses attract more visitors over the summer while also making it easier for local families to enjoy everything on their doorstep.
“And alongside free bus travel across England for five to 15-year-olds throughout August, we’re helping young people and families get out, explore and enjoy the summer without the same financial pressure.
“Blackpool is ready for a brilliant summer.”
