Armed robbery duo jailed after bookies raid

An armed robber and his amputee accomplice have been jailed for 40 months after robbing a bookmakers at knifepoint.

One legged Ronald Boardman, 52, of Grasmere Road, Blackpool, stood at the door as a look out for robber Jermaine Brown, 35, as he brandished a knife at a female member of staff at the Coral outlet on Red Bank Road, Bispham, on November 28 last year.

Preston Crown Court heard Brown had walked in and went straight to the counter at around 8pm. He leaned forward and pointed a small knife at a member of staff and demanded money.

The terrified worker threw some notes on the counter near him, but Brown then went to the cash drawer himself and cleared the contents of that and a second drawer into a white carrier bag he had brought with him. Boardman looked on, standing at the door, as the robbery unfolded.

Brow, also of Grasmere Road, pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of bladed article while Boardman pleaded guilty to robbery. Two members of staff on duty at the time were not hurt but ‘understandably shaken’, Coral said.
