Armed robber went on run from open jail

An armed robber who was sentenced to remain in jail until it was thought safe to release him went on the run from the Fylde coast after being allowed out on day release.

Anthony Pullen had been given permission by HMP Kirkham to do work at Donna’s Dream House, Blackpool, a charity which provides holidays for seriously ill children and their families.

Pullen then discovered he was being refused home leave to visit his girlfriend.

He failed to return to prison, and was put on the wanted list.

Pullen, 34, from Chirk, near Wrexham, pleaded guilty to remaining at large after being given temporary release from Kirkham Prison.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks’ jail, which will be served at the same time as his current sentence, by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
