Andy Joynson, who plays the electric guitar while his guide dog Toffee is sat by his side – often outside Boots in the town centre – had a trunk containing two amplifiers taken from outside his house in Ramsbottom, near Bury.

His daughter Lisa launched an online fundraising campaign to help replace the equipment. Her £1,000 target was smashed and more than £4,100 has so far been raised.

Andy wrote on the Go Fund Me page: “With all your extremely generous donations I am going to replace what’s missing and make a donation to the guide dogs.

“This has been an overwhelming experience and I can’t begin to thank you enough for your support and generosity.

“You have made me so proud of what I do, I never imagined we would get this much support.”

Greater Manchester Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of theft following the incident, which happened at 5.20pm last Tuesday.
