A £13k project that uses arts to help elderly

Wonder-Full, by Lytham based culture company Fable Arts and dance charity Ludus Dance, launches this week at Clifton Hospital in Lytham as part of a drive to support patient mental health.

David Kay, head of service at Clifton Hospital, said: “Clifton Hospital is really looking forward to working in partnership with Fable Arts again.

“The effects of alternative therapeutic activities can be really positive and we are delighted to be once again part of a quite innovative
project.”

Funded by United Utilities Lancashire Community Fund and Fylde Council, the programme aims to improve the quality of life of vulnerable older people, through weekly art, creative writing, movement and music sessions.

It follows on from Fable’s 2017 ‘Dare To Be Great’ collaboration with Ludus Dance and patients living with dementia and staff at the hospital.

Anthony Briggs, artistic director and chief executive of Ludus Dance, said: “Gentle movement to music has been proven to improve a person’s physical wellbeing as well as their mental health, and to help to reduce anxiety and stress.”
