Appeal as biker badly injured in crash

Officers were alerted to the collision, between a motorcyle and a car, at the junction of St Annes Road and Watson Road, at around 5.15pm yesterday.

The North West Air Ambulance was scrambled and the motorcyclist was given treatment at the scene.

Police understand the motorcyclist was travelling towards Blackpool town centre when he lost control of his Yahama bike and was thrown from the vehicle, sliding across the carriageway.

The 21-year-old became stuck under a parked Renault Master van before a Vauxhall Antara car travelling in the opposite direction collided with the rider.

The biker suffered serious head, facial and chest injuries and was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

No-one else was injured in the incident.

St Anne’s Road was closed for three hours while accident investigators attended.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact officers.

Sgt Tracey Ward, of the Lancashire Road Policing Unit, said: “We would urge anyone who witnessed this incident to contact police immediately.

“The rider, a 21-year-old man, suffered serious head injuries and we are trying to establish the exact nature of this collision.

“If you can help, contact police on 101 quoting log reference 0998 of April 7.”
