Anti-fracking protesters given court dates

They had locked themselves together with arms inside heavy blocks at Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site.

A Greenpeace spokesman said: “Facing arrest for protesting is scary, but the prospect of fracking in Lancashire is scarier.

"That’s why 10 determined campaigners ‘locked-on’ to boxes adorned with the Lancashire rose for more than eight hours.”

All ten were charged with obstruction of a highway.

Hamish Haynes, 43, of Quarry Clough, Stalybridge, Abigail Mortimer, 30, of Lorne Road, London, James Biggs, 30, of Canning Street, Liverpool, Elizabeth Stanton, 54, of Grafton Street, Preston, Helen Dryden, 47, of Claveley Walk, Wigan, Gillian Wood, 50, of Regent Road, Blackpool, Jane Hayes, 58, of Scarborough, Yorkshire and Barrie Broadley, 49, of Ipswich Road, Norfolk are to appear on June 5.

While Jeffrey Rice, 50, of Boulton Close, Chesterfield, Hamish Haynes, 43, of Quarry Clough, Stalybridge, and Peter Chan, 48, of Waverley Road, Reading, are due in court on June 19.
