The seven-day event will feature workshops, sports activities, inspirational speakers and live events, to cover all aspects of drug and alcohol addiction and support available to overcome it.

Workshop sessions will cover everything from exploring links between alcohol and violence, on Tuesday morning, to veterans dealing with substance misuse issues and issues of steroid use and addiction.

Talks will be given by Tom Fitzsimons, an inspirational speaker who tells of his own recovery from alcoholism, and Peter Sheath, who tells of how to deal with addiction to prescription drugs.

Sports activities throughout the week include a dance workshop tonight, a football match between prisoners and a football academy and ‘recovery zumba’, both on Saturday.

Matt Idle, recovery co-ordinator at HMP Kirkham, said: “It will be a packed week with some great workshops and guest speakers.”

The week is open to prisoners, families, staff and community groups to find out about support available.

It runs until Sunday.
