Anger at ‘kiss me quick’ claim over proposals

A row has broken out about the future of a former nightclub site in Lytham, as Fylde Council continues to seek residents’ views on proposals.

Several bids have been submitted to the council to re-develop the Scruples site on Lytham foreshore, including a sand and water play area and a high-quality landscape-designed scheme.

But with public consultation on the plans to close by 5pm today, an anonymous flier, urging residents to make their views known on what it calls an “inappropriate commercial development” has been distributed to homes across the town.

Members of Park View 4U, the team behind the sand and water play park plan, have raised concerns about the leaflet and its content, which suggests their idea is to turn the site into a form of theme park, including “cafe with swings, slides, a stall selling rocks, candyfloss, kiss me quick hats, small fun fair...and then what next?”

Park View chairman Aurelio Arcinega said: “The project will include a beach-style hut selling refreshments, ice cream, drinks and snacks, enabling us to create new job opportunities for local people.

“The redevelopment of this site will promote sustainable economic growth in our community as all the profits from the project will be ploughed back into it.”

The Park View plans will be available to view on Saturday and Sunday at the Scruples site. To give your opinion on the consultation, go to www.fylde.gov/council/scruplesconsultation
