All set for fun galore at village big day

The event celebrated its 90th anniversary in memorable style last year, with those in attendance including 97-year-old Alice Parkin, who was a flower girl at the very first Field day back in 1924.

Eponie Jones, 13, will be crowned the new Rose Queen in succession to Holly Wensley and her crowning will follow the traditional procession around The Green starting at noon.

The afternoon will feature family fun galore, with bands, a visiting fair, stalls face painting and sports for all among the features.

Hayley Stafford, chairman of the organising committee, said: “We are all looking forward to a great day.”

Eponie is a student at St Bede’s RC High School, Lytham, who lives at Moss Side and formerly attended Ribby with Wrea Primary School.

Members of her retinue are Isabella ford, Isabella Yates, Eva Yates and Chloe Sprules and her crown carrier Elphie Yeung.

Eponie’s crowning as Rose Queen will add further to a remarkable sequence for St Bede’s School.

Jenny Pope, crowned Lytham Rose Queen on Saturday, her predecessor in that role, Isobel Russell, and Charlotte Griffiths, the current St Annes Carnival Queen, are all also students at the Lytham school and headmaster Philip Grice said: “It’s quite an achievement and a real honour for the girls.”
