Actress Sophie cuts ribbon on new charity shop in town centre

Sense, the national disability charity, has opened its 100th charity shop in Abingdon Street in Blackpool.

The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by actress Sophie Powles, and the Deputy Mayor of Blackpool, Coun Gary Coleman, and Deputy Mayoress, Coun Debbie Coleman.

Sophie, known for her role as Holly Barton in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, said: “This is an incredible charity. 
“I’ve had a lovely morning opening the 100th sense charity shop in Blackpool and meeting the brilliant team.”

The new Sense shop stocks clothing, accessories, books, music, films and bric-a-brac.

Sense Director of Trading, Adrian Darkin, said: “We hope to welcome as many local people as possible in the future.”

Last year, Sense celebrated 60 years of providing support to deafblind people.

ActIt opened its first charity shop in Petts Wood, London, in 1986.
