Accountant grew cannabis in secret from her husband

Police raided the flat in Dudley Avenue, North Shore, which was rented by Kelly Thompson and found cannabis plants growing in a bedroom there.

Thompson, 32, of Edenfield, Clifton Drive, Lytham, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis.

She was fined £120 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates who ordered the destruction of the drugs and equipment.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police executed a drugs search warrant at a flat in Dudley Avenue. on November 17, and found 10 cannabis plants growing in an upstairs bedroom.

The flat appeared unoccupied with no furniture or personal belongings in it, only hydroponic equipment for growing the cannabis.

The landlord claimed the the drugs factory had caused damage to the carpets, bath and bathroom wall.

Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said Thompson and her husband occupied separate addresses because of arguments they were having at the time.

Thompson had rented the flat and because she did not want to buy cannabis from dealers decided to grow the drug herself. She was finding it difficult being estranged from her husband and smoked cannabis to get her through the difficult time. Thompson said she had grown seven plants.

Thompson and her husband were now back together and expecting their first child. She did not use cannabis any more and had no intention of using it again.
