His son, Stefan Martens, 57, has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the alleged incident at the house they share on Blackpool Road North.

Stefan Martens appeared at Blackpool Magistrates Court on April 1 where he was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Preston Crown Court later this month.

The prosecution alleged that his father’s injuries were inflicted by him.

Stefan Martens is due to make his next appearance at the higher court in Preston on April 24.
