Blackpool has today been named in the final four for the UK City of Culture 2029.
Alongside Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Wrexham, the resort is now in the running for the prestigious title that will unlock significant benefits for the local communities, such as increased investment, more access to cultural activities, and job creation.
Everyone on the Fylde coast is being urged to back a bid for Blackpool to be named the UK City of Culture 2029 - a prestigious accolade awarded by the government’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
If successful, Blackpool would receive £10m from the government towards a year-long celebration of arts and culture, to be enjoyed by local people as well as increasing the tourism economy. As well as the grant, the title of City of Culture also brings additional funding, sponsorship and investment to support regeneration and events.
