The scheme for a three-to-five storey hotel is earmarked for land between Leopold Grove, Adelaide Street and Alfred Street currently mainly used as a car park.

The outline proposals also include a second floor bridge to connect the development directly with the £25m conference centre under construction at the Winter Gardens.

The plans, submitted by London based architects Bisset Adams, have been revised in order to reduce the scale of the building so it fits in better with the surrounding area enabling a maximum of 203 bedrooms to be provided.

Blackpool’s planning committee is being recommended to approve the application when it meets on Wednesday.

A report by planning officers says the revised scheme will “add to the offer of quality visitor accommodation close to the town centre and is particularly well placed to serve future delegates at the conference centre.”

It adds: “This application is a positive step towards the regeneration of the site and the wider area, and it is in a key location on the edge of the town centre and adjacent to one of Blackpool’s most important heritage assets and leisure facilities.”

Planners say issues including servicing delivery hours, maximum noise levels and details of plant and ventilation will be dealt with by placing conditions on any planning approval “to ensure that the proposed hotel will not adversely affect the surrounding area.”
