18 amazing photos of the opening day at Fleetwood Memorial Park's much-anticipated new play facility

“The impressive space net climber is a fantastic addition and we're grateful to the Friends of Memorial Park for their continued support throughout the project."

Fleetwood Memorial Park’s brand new play equipment was officially opened - with ten new exciting places to play.

A standout feature of the project is a bespoke 7.2 metre tall space net climber, installed as the centrepiece of the playground.

The structure includes two hangout platforms, two slides and low-level access points, providing a challenging yet accessible play experience and creating a real "wow factor" for visitors. It is so high, it needed planning permission.

The £108,000 project has been funded through £104,000 of developer contributions and a £4,000 contribution from Wyre Council.

The new equipment replaces a timber climbing frame and the previous loose-fill woodchip surfacing has been upgraded to a more durable resin-bonded safety surface, reducing ongoing maintenance requirements while improving accessibility for users.

Six new timber trail play elements have also been installed to help children develop balance, coordination, core strength and confidence through active play. These include a wobble bridge, triple somersault bars, double web climber, turbo challenger, dynamic bar and balance combination unit.

Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces for Wyre Council said: "We're delighted to see the completion of the latest phase of improvements at Memorial Park. These new facilities provide exciting, inclusive and accessible play opportunities for local children while encouraging healthy, active lifestyles. The impressive space net climber is a fantastic addition and we're grateful to the Friends of Memorial Park for their continued support throughout the project."
