11 brilliant pictures of the cascade of poppies on show at St Chad's Church, Poulton ahead of Remembrance Day

Poppies of various colours on display in church yard in remembrance

A glorious cascade of poppies is bringing a brilliant display of colour to the churchyard at St Chad’s, Poulton in tribute to the sacrifices made during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Around 4,000 poppies make up the cascade throughout the grounds of the church, prepared largely by representatives of Poulton In Bloom, with help from local school children.

There are various colours of poppies among the display. Along with the traditional red, yellow recognises the contribution to the war effort of the ‘canary girls’ who prepared munitions in factories, while purple symbolises the animals’ lives lost during the wars.

“It’s a wonderful display and our thanks to those who helped create it,” said Cllr Peter le Marinel, the armed forces lead at Wyre Council.

“It is important for us to always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars. If we don’t remember, the same mistakes can be made and we don’t want another world war or any wars.”
