If you’ve got an old bra or two lurking at the bottom of your underwear drawer, you could give them a new lease of life – and support the Against Breast Cancer charity at the same time.

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Blackpool Skip Hire is appealing for local residents to donate their unwanted bras in a specially customized pink skip.

For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund its research.

The eye-catching bra bank can be found at Blackpool Skip Hire, Beacon Road, Poulton Business Park, for the remainder of the month.

Anne-Marie England, from Shine Bright Media, who works with Blackpool Skip Hire and came up with the idea, said: “This October, Blackpool Skip Hire will be supporting Breast Cancer

Awareness Month.

“We have customised a pink skip for recycling your old bras.

“For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund research.

“The bras will then be given a new lease of life and sent to those who need them in less developed countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to

produce locally.

“This also helps to stop clothes clogging landfill sites which we are very passionate about at Blackpool Skip Hire.”

More than 100 bras were donated on one day alone when the skip was placed outside Blackpool Carers Centre on Newton Drive, Blackpool.

Faye Atherton, quality director at Blackpool Carers Centre, said: “We were delighted to collaborate with our friends at Blackpool Skip Hire to host their pink skip for Breast Cancer

Awareness Month.

“We support many families affected by breast cancer and know the devastation that diagnosis can bring.

“Reminding women and men to check themselves regularly and seek advice early, especially right now when lots of us are putting off approaching health services, is vital in preventing late

diagnosis and limited options for treatment and recovery.

“It was great to see our team and the local community come out in force to do some bra flinging on a Monday morning!

“All in a good cause!”

The skip was at Blackpool Carers Centre on Monday, October 12 but is now stationed back at Blackpool Skip Hire’s base in Poulton.

Anne-Marie added: “We will be rolling out many ways throughout October that our Facebook friends and business associates can help with recycling bras, donations, and getting involved

to support this amazing charity.

“We placed the pink skip at Blackpool Carers Centre and got over 100 bras!

“The pink skip will now be at Blackpool Skip Hire throughout October if people want to pop along to recycle their old bras.

“Due to Covid-19, the skip will be at the outer gates to protect our staff and those that wish to bring bras.

“I will also be offering a pickup service to any business on the Fylde coast that wishes to get together some bras for recycling.”

Against Breast Cancer funds research to improve detection, treatment and increase survival after breast cancer diagnosis.
