Bailey Wood, nine, from Marton, sold cupcakes and paintings over social media during the half-term holidays, collecting £251 for the hospice on Low Moor Road, Bispham.

He had hoped to raise money with a collection bucket outside his family’s spectacular Halloween house decorations, which normally attract 100 trick or treaters each year.

But when coronavirus restrictions were put in place, Bailey came up with another fundraising plan.

His mum, Macala Wood, said: “He made Halloween cupcakes and paintings and sold them on Facebook. I didn’t expect him to raise so much. It’s marvellous.

“He said he wanted to give the money to poorly children and he had heard of Brian House. His dad Daniel and I are so proud of him.”

Bailey, a pupil at Marton Primary Academy, said: “I’m very happy to raise money for poorly children so they can get Christmas toys.

“I’m amazed that people brought all the money, thank you everyone!”

Bailey received donations from local residents as well as Timothy Andrews Hair Salon and The Pizza Company.

Michelle Lonican, community fundraising manager at the hospice, said: “We were absolutely delighted to meet Bailey outside Brian House for his wonderful donation.

“He did such an amazing job painting pictures, baking cakes and decorating his house, and we’re so grateful he chose to support our children’s hospice.

“It’s been such a hard time for our community’s most vulnerable children, so to know that there are people out there doing such wonderful things for them, like Bailey, really means the

world to us.”
