St Catherine's Singers to relive American dream with a one-off reunion concert

It’s 50 years since a Blackpool school choir made a 3,000-mile trip to Connecticut to perform at a concert.

The girls from St Catherine’s School gave the opening concert at Bridgeport University for a seminar of Music in Education – and now they are reunitung for a a one-off concert in Blackpool next year.

Rosemary Cooper was one of those singers and she is hoping to reunite her classroom friends for the event. She said: “We are inviting anyone that ever sang at any time with the St Catherine’s singers to join us in celebrating singing.

“So far we have 26 interested past pupils, including one coming from South Africa, one from Australia and others from around the UK.

“We still need more St Catherine’s singers. There will be support to oil those rusty voices, initially via the internet, followed by ‘come sing days’ once we are able. Remember we always rose to a challenge!”

The American event was attended by people from 18 states. The concert is planned for July 3. Rosemary can be contacted at [email protected]
