And Best treated them to an unforgettable afternoon as he turned on the old style in a special fund raising match at Lytham. Silver jubilee celebrations were the order of the day at one of Lancashire's most unusual schools. The highlight for the children at Weeton Camp county primary school, near Kirkham, was a surprise party. Then parents turned out for a reception plaque presentation. In its 25-year history the school has catered exclusively for Army children.

Two schoolgirls will come face to face with themselves when they visit an art show. Self portraits of the Lytham sixth formers will join more than 60 art works on the walls of a Preston gallery. The exhibition at the Vernon Gallery in Preston is being organised by head of art at Queen Mary School, Lytham, Mr Gordon Grundy, and features work by Sarah West, 18, (pictured left) and Sally Philpot, 16
