Blackpools mental health support group STAR (Standing Together and Recovering) has posted messages of hope in The Tower Woods park, off West Drive and Holmfield Avenue in Cleveleys.

The hand-written signs, bearing slogans such as ‘When you feel like giving up, just remember the reason why you held on for so long’, are designed to help those in the middle of a crisis.

A spokesman said: “A lot of the dog walkers stopped to have a chat and ask us what we were doing and why. Everyone thought it was a lovely idea, and told all the STARs to keep up the good work.

“Let’s hope that these messages can reach out to someone and encourage them to reach out if they need to.”

The group also planned to leave messages on open-roofed multistorey car parks in Blackpool. It said: “Funding has been cut and the Mental Health services are at breaking point in this area.”
