The Harbour psychiatric unit off Preston New Road, Marton, inset, can now build a new Section 136 room’, a place of safety where police take someone suspected of being in the midst of a crisis.

Bosses at the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust - formerly Lancashire Care - can also create small lobby areas and larger observation rooms within two seclusion suites after planning officers at Fylde Council approved their proposals.

Additional toilets will also be built at the hospital which opened in 2015 and has beds for around 155 patients.
