Lancashire County Council's Director of Public Health and Wellbeing, Dr Sakthi Karunanithi said: "We have had one new case confirmed today in Fylde.

"All those who have tested positive for the virus in Lancashire are being well looked-after and isolating themselves at home.

"I would stress that if you have not been contacted by Public Health England you do not need to do anything beyond following the general advice being given to the public."

If you go into self-isolation you do not need to call NHS 111.

Dr Sakthi Karunanithi added: "The latest advice issued highlights that the most common symptoms of coronavirus are recent onset of a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature.

"Anyone with these symptoms, however mild, should stay at home and not go out from seven days of when your symptoms started.

"I'd like to reassure people that we are doing everything we reasonably can to stop the virus spreading and ensure people are protected.

"Earlier this week I spoke at a meeting of all Lancashire's council leaders to update them on the situation, and I'm confident that we are well placed to be able to support each other, working alongside colleagues in the NHS and Public Health England to respond as needed."

To slow the spread of the virus the general advice to everyone remains the same.

Practice good hygiene by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly, and if you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve rather than your hands before washing your hands or using a hand sanitising gel.

As of 9am today, a total of 32,771 people have been tested with 798 testing positive for Covid -19.
