Daniel Taylor, 42, of Clayton Crescent, has cerebral palsy and needs a wheelchair, so he is unable to go out and shop for himself and relies heavily on the bulky deliveries from Morrisons.

The cancellation meant that Daniel’s parents, who are in their sixties and have been trying to self-isolate due to the coronavirus lockdown, had to go out and buy the shopping and take it to him themselves, and they fear he may now have to wait two weeks for the next slot.

Daniel, who works for the Department of Works and Pensions in Bispham but is now self-isolating and on the vulnerable list, said: “I was completely baffled and frustrated, to be honest. I knew I had money in the bank so it wasn’t that. Morrisons just sent me an email with no explanation.”

And dad David, 63, said: “If we hadn’t been around, he would have been stuck.”

Morrisons said: “Cancelled deliveries are often due to the customer’s bank not authorising the payment.

“We advise all new customers and customers who don’t usually shop online to get in touch with their relevant card provider before making their order to inform them to reduce the chance of this happening.”

A Barclays spokesman said it appeared the PIN may have been typed incorrectly and added: “If the payment card details do not match, Morrison’s should decline the order or ask the customer to re-enter the details, which would have allowed the order to proceed.”
